Creative Journaling Workshops
Creative Journaling Workshop
Creative Journals are handmade books of recycled materials, decorative paper, and ephemera. The pages can be used to write, draw, paint, record memories, thoughts, ideas, dreams, and inspiration. Similar to a vision board, creative journaling helps you address your current situation and manifest your future through creativity, collage, and embellishments. The organic process reveals self-discovery through your choice of theme, colour, design, and words. Also known as junk journals, smash books, glue books, or art journals, Creative Journaling allows your self expression to grow and thrive. You will learn techniques to make book signatures, book binding, envelopes, tucks, tags, labels, pockets, zines, and covers for your own Creative Journal. Art supplies will be provided for you to make one embellished book signature and a cover.

We used to mend and make clothing out of necessity due to lack of materials and funds.
Now we mend and make clothing out of necessity to slow the fast fashion industry.

The History of Quilting and Activism
The History of Quilting and Activism
From the origins of European quilts to descendants of American slaves in Gee’s Bend to the Freedom Quilts of the 1960s and 1980s AIDS quilts participants will learn how quilts played an integral part of communication, civil rights, and protest movements. Arpilleras (brightly coloured fabric quilts) were made in Chile in the 1990s that told the story of missing and murdered people as a result of Chile’s the brutal dictatorship. Welsh women by the hundreds protested in Greenham Common against American nuclear presence in Wales. The rich history of quilting and activism has a contemporary life that will be discussed in this interactive presentation.

Crochet Coral Reef
Using chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet, you will be able to start at least one coral reef and have the knowledge to start designing your own coral reef masterpiece. This nature based and meditative crochet technique is easy to learn and remember without a complicated pattern. The technique can also be used to embellish other crochet projects and create a dynamic 3D scarf.
This class will start with a brief slide show presentation explaining the origins of the technique and how it inspired a global movement of bringing attention to climate change and coral reefs.
Links to further information and websites will be provided for you to view after the class at your leisure.
Materials needed for this class; one skein (ball) of worsted weight yarn and the crochet hook size recommended on the yarn label.
* Basic Crochet skills required. We recommended learning along with Sandra Clarke in the short 10 minute Instagram video below on how to crochet before this class.
